Our History

Freo Farmers Market began as Growers Green Farmers Market in 2010.  The market was located on the grounds of South Fremantle High School.  It was an initiative of the P&C.  Kylie Wheatley was employed as the manager from 2014.  In 2018 the school underwent a huge renovation and was renamed Fremantle College.  Kylie Wheatley of Red Tent Events leased the space and operated the market for the community with the support of the City of Fremantle. The market grew and moved to Bruce Lee Oval, where it still calls it's home. There was a brief change of location in 2025, due to works needed on the reserve, which saw Freo Farmers Market embark on its first ever roadie, taking up residence at Freo Arts Centre and Frank Gibson Reserve.

Kylie Wheatley
​MARKET MANAGER

Kylie is the Market Manager and is well known for her love of Markets, Fremantle and the Arts. Kylie's passion for markets and community has seen her create and provide markets in Fremantle and beyond for the last 20 years.  Kylie's markets have been featured on Lonely Planet TV, have won the City of Fremantle Disability Award, and the Chamber of Commerce, "Outstanding Community Event Award Winner". Georgie Smith
​MARKET COORDINATOR

Georgie's background is a mixture of events and marketing. From coordinating ultra-marathon events to creating content for food and music festivals. She has always spent most weekends hopping around markets, including when on her travels, until she settled in Perth 3 years ago and found a home at Freo Farmers Market. You'll likely find her wheeling tents, bins and chairs around the market, or with her camera in hand, chatting to the market's incredible stall holders.
